Amazon has recently launched a brand new variant of its popular Echo Speaker. This time, they added a twist to the product by customizing it specifically for one market – India.
With India being one of Amazon’s largest market opportunities, the company decided to fulfill the needs of over 1.3 billion customers in the nation. Their new Echo Speaker, specifically designed for India, addresses the most requested feature of the customers in this region – portability.
Introducing the Echo Input Portable Smart Speaker Edition
The new speaker, known as the Echo Input Portable Smart Speaker Edition, is a portable version of the original Echo Speaker with a built-in battery. The battery features 4 800 mAh, which provides ten hours of continuous playing or eleven hours on standby mode.
One of the main reasons why Amazon decided to design a speaker specifically for India is the high demand for Alexa-enabled portable speakers. With portability being the main unique feature of the product, this speaker shares the rest of the hardware setup with the previous Echo Input model.
“Portability has been one of the most requested features in India,” said Miriam Daniel, VP of Alexa Devices. “You want to be able to carry Alexa with you from room to room within your homes. So we have designed something just for you.”
The Echo Input Portable Smart Speaker Edition provides other features including access to over 100,000 Alexa skills, compatibility with a variety of home devices, Alexa voice assistant, as well as LEDs that indicate the battery level.
Devices of this nature are so well accepted in India because of Alexa abilities. Amazon noted that Alexa features were extremely popular in this region, so much that even companies such as LG, Sony, and Motorola started adding Alexa to their headphones and smartphones.
Price and Availability
Since the new Echo Speaker was launched recently, customers in India can still get it at introductory price of 4,999 Indian Rupees, which equals to $70. The regular price of the device will be set at 5,999 Indian Rupees or $84.
Amazon has started the shippings on December 18th. This is a huge opportunity for the company to generate massive sales considering that India is an enormous market of 1.3 billion people.
Amazon has already invested nearly five billion dollars in products aimed at the Indian market, which tells us that they’ve had previous success in this region. Even though the company never disclosed the exact numbers when it comes to sales in India, it’s easy to conclude that they have achieved massive success.
After all, this is not the first time they have been customizing already-existing products specifically for India. Back in September, the company also added support for Hindi language for Alexa, making this voice assistant service even more popular in the region.
