Roads of Time 2: Odyssey is the fifth game and second sequel to the action and strategy game Roads of Time. It was developed by LucasArts and released in 1994. It was re-released on Windows as a Game of the Year in 1997.
Gameplay
Roads of Time 2 is a three-dimensional, top-down, strategy game in which the player commands a disc-shaped spaceship called the Discovery, also known as “Rover 2”. One of the main playable maneuvers is the swoop, which allows the rover to reach a position near the side of a planet where it can fortify itself. By building defensive turrets and using the skills and abilities of Rover’s various crew members, the rover can hold the ground against other rovers and enemy ships. In multiplayer mode, multiple rovers attack each other in space and battle for control of the planets.
Although the game was heavily based on the third-person DOS game 3D asteroid miner, a few elements were altered. Unlike 3D asteroid miner, a Navigation C-FPU is used in Roads of Time to serve as the sole means of movement and backtracking from one part of the map to another. This allows infinite backtracking from any point in the game into any other point with the exception of the immediate past and future. This tactic was brought back in the next sequel, Legacies of Time. The C-FPU of the title allows for the input of multiple commands at once. Also, the virtual “keyboard” of the C-FPU is separate from the Atari/ColecoVision game console’s keyboard, allowing for inputs with no keyboard at all (see “Specialty Input Devices” below). The major omission is the ability of the game’s hero to crouch and prone, which was one of the most frequently used and useful maneuvers in 3D asteroid miner.
Plot
The game begins in near-Earth space, near Jupiter.
Time 2 takes place in “Old Time” and it is in the year 2512, after the Third Age of Time has ended and the fourth age, the Age of Chaos, has begun. The game revolves around the Discovery, a star-travelling extraterrestrial starship, built after the Time Wars (also known as the Black Ages) when the many Time Ships were destroyed, following the events of the first game. News(MIAMI) — The first artificial heart transplant performed in the United States ended successfully Thursday, according to researchers from Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami.
“It works,” said Aaron Levy, director of Heart and Vascular Center at the hospital, after the transplant.
The patient, a 34-year-old woman, was taken to the hospital from a home health agency in South Florida and was on a respirator. Her organs were donated by her husband.
The patient’s surgery was developed by Dr. Sangeeta Nanda, head of Cardiology and Heart Surgery at the hospital, and her team, in collaboration with a team from the University of Miami.
“You always want to save a life and this was a unique case of where patients were willing to donate,” Nanda said.
“It does kind of seem like a scene out of a science fiction movie.”
According to the researchers, the artificial heart offers another option for patients suffering from end-stage heart failure.
The patient was already an established heart transplant candidate.
“We’re optimistic that the HeartMate will enable her long-term survival,” said Levy.
The patient is receiving drugs to prevent rejection of her new heart, Levy said.
The second patient to have a heart transplanted in the United States received a new heart in October. The patient is undergoing rehabilitation at the University of Florida.
Nanda said a third patient who has received an artificial heart is expected to undergo surgery in early January.Q:
