Records of all drawing objects, using the “xref” format, an XML file format that allows objects in multiple formats to be used in the same drawing.
Lists of all blocks (or “documents”) and layers within the drawing. These contain a sequence of sub-records that describe the block’s attributes and shape. These are referred to as “blocks” in AutoCAD, although they are technically “documents” in the Archive format.
A text file containing drawing comments in the form of ASCII text or Markup Language.
The default file name for a DWG file is “dwg”, but it is possible to create DWG files with more than one name. A drawing with a particular name in an Archive format can be imported as a DWG file with a different name.
