Software Concept
AutoCAD is based on a coordinate space concept in which the space is represented as two dimensions, X and Y, while the point is represented as a coordinate in the space. An example of an X-Y coordinate system is the Cartesian coordinate system where the X axis represents the horizontal and the Y axis represents the vertical.
On a traditional computer screen, the X and Y axes are usually parallel, so the X axis goes from left to right and the Y axis goes from top to bottom. This scheme is typical of user-interface design.
Most modern CAD software such as AutoCAD follows this same style. This is because users need to be able to navigate across the CAD space quickly. With a traditional X-Y display scheme, users need to know where they are and adjust their pointing device accordingly. AutoCAD’s hybrid display scheme allows for quick navigation while maintaining clarity of space.
CAD Software
The business model for AutoCAD is “software as a service” (SaaS), which allows a user to use the CAD software on a computing device such as a personal computer (PC) or smartphone (or tablet or other mobile device). With a SaaS model, the company provides hardware, software, and maintenance and support services.
In this model, the company does not own and maintain the hardware, software, and infrastructure used to run the service. For example, the hardware may be owned and maintained by the customer, whereas the software and services are provided by the service provider. This differs from the traditional software license model where the customer owns the software, and the software provider owns and maintains the computing equipment and infrastructure
AutoCAD PC/Windows (Updated 2022)
In December 2013, Autodesk filed a lawsuit against a customer who had used Autodesk’s patented technology to create a remote-controlled robot. The robot, known as Urbee, is based on a Lego Mindstorms NXT unit and is currently featured on the Autodesk Exchange App store. The suit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California in San Francisco, alleged copyright infringement.

Charles Francis Dufour (1841–1904) was a French-born stained glass artist who spent most of his career in the United States. He was an associate of Louis Comfort Tiffany and the Tiffany studios. Dufour is most famous for his painting on stained glass windows for the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart in Rochester, New York. For the cathedral, Dufour created a painting of Saint Joachim and Saint Anne, which depicts the birth of Jesus in the home of the Virgin Mary. The windows are now in a chapel dedicated to St. Anne.
Charles Francis Dufour was born in Paris, France. His father was an artist. Dufour began his art career at the age of 22 in New York City. In 1863, he opened an art school, where he taught painting, sculpture, drawing and wood engraving. In 1866, Dufour established a school of architecture in the Adirondacks.
In 1870, Dufour moved to the West. He arrived in Denver, Colorado, where he became an assistant to Thomas Wilmer Dewing, a famous art educator. In 1871, Dufour arrived in Oregon, where he created several large windows for the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Waverly, Oregon. Dufour worked closely with Louis Comfort Tiffany for much of his career. In 1874, Dufour completed the first stained glass windows created by the Tiffany Studios.
